Cookie policy
This site uses cookies. Below is a short, jargon-free explanation of what they are, which ones we use, and how to delete or block them in your browser at any time.
What is a cookie?
A cookie (also called a "browser cookie" or "HTTP cookie") is a small file of letters and numbers that your browser saves on the computer, phone or tablet you browse the internet from.
A cookie is passive: it holds no programs, viruses or spyware and it cannot read anything else on your device. It stores only a name and a value, and normally contains nothing that identifies you personally.
There are two kinds:
- Session cookies — kept temporarily and gone the moment you close the browser window.
- Persistent cookies — stored on your device for a set period, or until you delete them yourself.
How long does a cookie last?
It depends on what the cookie is for. Some expire when you close the browser, others last days or months so you do not have to repeat the same choice on every visit.
Whatever the duration, you can delete cookies from your browser settings at any time and the site will carry on working.
Which cookies does this site use?
We use strictly necessary cookies — the ones the site could not work correctly without — and Google Analytics, so we know how many people visit us and which pages they read. We run no advertising cookies, we load no social buttons, and we sell nobody's data.
On the contact page, the form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which sets a cookie of its own to tell a person from a program sending automated messages.
The contact page also shows a Google Maps map of where the workshop is. The map is loaded straight from Google, which may set a cookie of its own to remember how you prefer the map to look.
These are all the cookies that can end up on your device when you visit the site:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| dcr-win-win-session | Remembers your browsing session so the contact form works correctly. | 2 hours | Strictly necessary |
| XSRF-TOKEN | Protects the contact form against forged submissions from other sites. | 2 hours | Strictly necessary |
| dcr_cookie_consent | Remembers that you have read the cookie notice, so we do not show it on every page. | 1 month | Strictly necessary |
| _GRECAPTCHA | Google reCAPTCHA: keeps the contact form free of automated messages. Set by Google rather than by us, and only on the contact page. | 6 months | Strictly necessary |
| NID | Google Maps: remembers your display preferences for the map on the contact page. Set by Google rather than by us, and only on the contact page. | 6 months | Map |
| _ga | Google Analytics: tells visitors apart, so one visit is not counted twice. | 2 years | Analytics |
| _ga_JG9ZRDNH84 | Google Analytics: keeps track of which visit session you are in. | 2 years | Analytics |
The first four are strictly necessary: the site would not work without them, and the contact form would be left defenceless against automated messages. The map cookie only reaches your device if you open the contact page, and tells us nothing about you. The two Google Analytics ones tell us, anonymously, how many people visit us and which pages they read. The reCAPTCHA cookie, the map cookie and the Analytics statistics all reach Google, which may store the data outside the European Union. If you would rather not receive these cookies, you can block or delete them in your browser at any time, as explained below.
How can I stop cookies?
Every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies. The settings are usually under "Settings" or "Preferences", in the privacy section.
Bear in mind that blocking cookies entirely can stop parts of the site from working — sending the contact form, for example.
Your rights
The cookies we set ourselves do not involve processing data that identifies you. reCAPTCHA is the exception: to tell a person from a program, Google looks at your IP address and at how you move around the contact page. Anything else you send us — through the contact form, for instance — is covered by our personal data protection policy.
If you have questions about how we use cookies, write to us at discalr [at] yahoo.com.
